The Love Letters Method
A simple practice of deliberate remembering.
The Love Letters Method begins with something ordinary: an object, a place, a sound, a smell, a ritual, or an experience.
A Love Letter, sensory prompt, or thoughtful question gives memory somewhere to begin. Then we pause and allow whatever comes back to surface naturally.
That memory can be noticed privately, written down, shared with someone you love, recorded for the future, or used to open a larger conversation.
Because ordinary memories are one of the ways we understand who we were, who we loved, and what mattered.
One Method. Many Ways to Use It.
For Yourself and the People You Love
Use the Love Letters as prompts for your own memories. Write about what comes back. Share a story with someone you love. Ask a parent or grandparent about something from their past. Record their voice. Preserve a story that might otherwise disappear.
You don’t need to be grieving, growing older, or facing a crisis.
Sometimes remembering is worthwhile simply because a life is worth noticing.
For Groups and Organizations
The Love Letters Method can also be used to create meaningful, structured conversations in senior communities, memory cafés, libraries, churches, community organizations, educational settings, businesses, support groups, and other gathering places.
The goal is never to test memory, force disclosure, or tell someone what their memories mean.
The goal is to create an invitation.
The personal practice can be remarkably simple.
For facilitated groups, we’ve done considerably more of the work for you.
Bring the Love Letters Method to Your Group
Many Love Letters are accompanied by an optional Workshop in a Box that expands the Method into a complete facilitated experience.
Each workshop can include ready-made discussion prompts, sensory anchors, participant activities, facilitator guidance, supporting materials, and optional tools for organizations that want a more structured program.
The Love Letters themselves are free to read, watch, and listen to.
You only pay when you want the premade materials that make running a complete session easier.
See exactly how it works.
The complete Uncle Tommy workshop is available free, so you can explore the full facilitated version of the Love Letters Method before purchasing anything.
